AMBER RUSSELL Assistant Designer

Thank you for taking the time to look through my online portfolio - I really hope you find it inspiring!

 

In April 2021 I joined River Island, starting out as a womenswear Design Assistant across the Wovens, Soft Casuals and Denim + Casual Separates teams. During this time shared across departments, I was able to develop a great understanding of designing for a particular customer; raising my commercial awareness, whilst also teaching me important skills for trend recognition and analysis. I was promoted to my current role, Assistant Designer, on the Denim and Casual Separates team, in August 2022 where I am focusing on developing my skills in a more specialist area. Examples of my most recent work can be found in the 'River Island' tab under Womenswear.

 

Prior to my current role, and after receiving a 1st Class Degree in BA Fashion Design in 2019, I secured a role as Design Assistant at a WW supplier, based in London. It was there that I spent a year working across the jersey, outerwear and knitwear design teams, strengthening my knowledge of design across differing product categories and learning invaluable initial skills to kickstart my career in the industry.

My final year design brief led me to researching, developing and designing four seperate collections, each consisting of 24 outfits. My concept choices exemplify a range of skills across different market levels as well as my creative and design ability across tailoring, outerwear, sportswear and jerseywear. Between 2017 and 2018 I completed a year-long creative placement in the Sportswear and Footwear team at The Walt Disney Company, where I learnt invaluable skills that can be applied throughout the research, design and marketing processes. Working at TWDC allowed me the opportunity to see the entirety of the creative process, from concept to development, right through to the final rollout of the product.
